Errol Copilevitz is the senior partner and founder of the law firm Copilevitz & Canter, LLC. His national practice focuses on representing tax exempt organizations and charitable fundraising and First Amendment issues. He has twice represented his clients before the United States Supreme Court, both times securing important rights to all charities and fundraising organizations.
In the spring of 2012, Copilevitz was recognized in The Best & the Brightest review in The NonProfit Times. Along with other distinguished individuals in the charitable industry, including Bill Gates and U2’s Bono, Copilevitz is listed among the top 25 most influential persons in the charitable sector in the past 25 years. He is the author of numerous articles in trade and educational magazines, among them are The Historical Role of the First Amendment in Charitable Appeals, Vol XXVII Stetson Law Review, No.2, p.457 (1997-Fall) and Looking Back to Assess the United Cancer Council Case, Taxation of Exempts (Sept 2001).
Copilevitz provides general counsel to many charitable organizations as well as supervises the firm staff of registration attorneys and paralegals with regard to compliance with state charity and fundraiser registration laws. He represents clients as diverse as the Wounded Warrior Project, The National Children’s Cancer Society and SCA Direct.
Among the honors he has received are: Philanthrophy Monthly Magazine’s Man of the Year, 1988, acting as Keynote Speaker at the Indiana University School of Philanthropy 1996 Symposium and being named to NonProfit Times 2003 Power & Influence Top 50, and invited speaker at The American Bar Association Program on Tax Exempt Organizations.
